hoani and the merman (tamati)
Hoani and the Merman (TAMATI
Many,MANY,MANY! years ago there was a Merman named Tamati who sat on the bottom of lake Rotorua.
He only comes up to the surface every 10 million years for food and his food of choice was humans.
He is 30ft tall and 12ft wide and very muscular. In Rotorua the village is in the east bottom right it is called Whakarewarewa the living maori village. It is about 4.7 km away from lake Rotorua. Whakarewarewa is a happy thermal village because they have all the resources they need like haugi and freshwater to survive.
Many years ago a chief called hoani he was very muscular for his height he was very stubby he was only 5 ft 9 they were very happy but they were not prepared for what was happening. Until someone came to their village uninspected saying that Tamati will come at midnight they did not believe the stranger. but it was true when everybody was sleeping at 12 tamati came making waves go everywhere as he started walking to the village it shock the whole earth waking up everybody in the village they thought is was a party but i wasn’t Hoani immediately called a meeting in the underground base Tamati with his big steps he was already halfway in a couple of minutes Hoani said this is my village i have to defend it Tamati was one step away.
Hoani was looking at the merman smashing and eating everything in its way he was about to go back into the wavy water Hoani chased Tamati all the way back to the lake and then hoani threw a spear right at the merman’s head splash the merman fell head first in the lake sinking to the bottom like a sinking ship his rusty and fagile bones still remain near mokoia island. Now there was some music and the National Anthem the village thought it was a party and this time it was with all haungi everyone was happy, Hoani was given a beautiful coat made of flax for bravery, Hoani sadly died during the year because he defended and died for his village there was a big funeral, WITH CHRIST AS OUR CENTRE WE STRIVE FOR EXCELLENCE because the village knows all about him and they follow in his footsteps to bravery, and try to be like him but they had to plan a huge construction on their village
NO ONE KNOWS IF THAT IS THE END (MYTH)
